CHANDIGARH: The special court of CBI on Tuesday allowed Punjab deputy superintendent of police to travel abroad.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Raka Ghira in July 2011 for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from Malhotra for settling his case.
The investigating agency had conducted a raid in the Sector 15 palatial house of the Punjab police DSP. The CBI had laid a trap on the complaint of Krishan Kumar Malhotra.
A bench headed by Dr Sushil Kumar Garg granted her permission to visit Dubai from December 24 to January 2. The court directed her to “furnish the bank guarantee/FDR to the tune of Rs 15,00,000 – which shall be invocable without any notice to the applicant-accused, in case, she fails to appear before the court on the stipulated date of hearing, fixed after January 2.”
The CBI court also directed the DSP to furnish the affidavit containing the address of daughter of her elder sister at Dubai.
Raka Gira has moved an application seeking permission to visit Dubai along with her two elder sisters to meet the daughter of one of her elder sister, who is residing permanently there.
Raka Gira was granted permission to visit abroad earlier as well by the court. However, this was opposed by the CBI and it was argued that she should not be granted permission as there is every possibility that she may misuse this concession and flee away from the country and try to evade herself from the trial proceedings.
After the arguments, the court granted her permission to fly abroad with conditions.
