A businessman bought the vehicle registration number CH-01-BQ-0001 for Rs 5.13 Lakh for his Rs 8.5-lakh Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback at an e-auction of vanity numbers held in Chandigarh on Friday. The reserve price was Rs 50,000.
“Who does not want a fancy number?” asked the buyer, Inder Gupta, rhetorically. He said he has an import business and lives in Sector 9 of Panchkula.
The next highest bidding had gone for registration number 0005 purchased by Eekatishh Buildtech for Rs 4 lakh. The number 0009 was sold to city resident Preeti Thakur for Rs 3.06 Lakh, and 0007 went for Rs 2.39 lakh. Then the numbers 0002 and 0003 were sold for Rs 2.24 lakh and Rs 2.18 lakh, respectively. The reserve price of these numbers was 30,000.
As many as 224 bidders participated in the sale of the new series by the Registration and Licensing Authority that raked in Rs 58 lakh.
Other numbers that did well for the RLA were 0077 and 7777 sold for Rs 1.2 lakh and Rs 1.24 lakh. In the past one decade, the highest bid, for CH-01-AP-0001 in 2012, was Rs 26 lakh.
